Oskar Gyllenswärd Interview

Each month, we ask a photographer to picture a Corneliani Travel Jacket - the iconic overshirt- on someone, somewhere in the world. These shots were taken in the archipelago just outside of Stockholm by Oskar Gyllenswärd, a Swedish-born photographer whose work has taken him all over the world and been featured in the likes of Vogue, L’Officiel and Globe-Trotter campaigns. Inspired by everyday scenes and classic portraiture, he cleverly uses light to create images with a relaxed, almost intimate feel – like the shots he has taken of the Corneliani Travel Jacket.

Where did you take these pictures?

Oskar Gyllenswärd : «At our summer house on a small island in the archipelago outside of Stockholm».

Who’s wearing the Travel shirt-jacket?

Oskar Gyllenswärd: «As it’s a perfect fit with my wardrobe, I decided to wear it myself».

What was the mood you were trying to convey?

Oskar Gyllenswärd: «Peace. Whenever I go to the island, I find inspiration in the scenes and how the light plays across the rocks and trees and their textures. It’s my retreat – I can always find peace of mind there».

What do you like about the location?

Oskar Gyllenswärd: «It’s a bit isolated, with limited amenities, but has a beautiful view and a wood-fired sauna».

What do you like about travelling?

Oskar Gyllenswärd: «I love to arrive at new destinations and to just take it all in – the scents, the street scenes or sounds of nature».

What are the key things you always pack?

Oskar Gyllenswärd: «Toiletries, underwear and something versatile like the Corneliani Travel Jacket».

What’s the one piece of advice you’d give to fellow travellers?

Oskar Gyllenswärd: «Skip the tourist traps and find a spot where you can sit and watch the everyday life of the locals».

Do you have a packing tip?

Oskar Gyllenswärd: «Turn your garments inside out to reduce creasing».

Hand luggage or check-in?

Oskar Gyllenswärd: «Hand luggage as far as possible. I’m trying to live by the YAGNI (“You Aren’t Gonna Need it”) rule».

How did the Corneliani Travel jacket do – what’s your review of it?

Oskar Gyllenswärd: «It was great. It has a nice feel and works for most occasions, so is truly a splendid travel companion».
