Ashton Hugh Interview
Each month we ask a photographer to picture a Corneliani Travel Jacket - the iconic overshirt- somewhere in the world. These shots were taken by Ashton Hugh, an editorial photographer whose bold aesthetic imbues luxe energy to both shoot settings and on location. Here, he captures the charm of ranch life on a trip to San Antonio, Texas.
Where did you take these pictures?
Ashton Hugh: «A ranch in San Antonio, Texas».
Who’s wearing the Travel shirt-jacket?
Ashton Hugh: «Me».
What was the mood you were trying to convey?
Ashton Hugh: «I wanted to create an authentic feel of ranch life, riding the horses and wearing a cowboy hat».
What do you like about the location?
Ashton Hugh: «The wonderful light. Nature. The countryside. It’s so far away from the hustle and bustle of city life».
What do you like about travelling?
Ashton Hugh: «I love the feeling of being a million miles from the city I live in. It’s nice to disappear and become a no one. I also just love exploring and seeing new places».
What are the key things you always pack?
Ashton Hugh: «My camera, usually a simple 35mm point-and-shoot that’s easy to carry around».
What’s the one piece of advice you’d give to fellow travellers?
Ashton Hugh: «Road trip, road trip, road trip. Having a car is the best way to get around. Then you can go wherever you like and aren’t limited to public transport. It’s the best!».
Do you have a packing tip?
Ashton Hugh: «Under pack. I always take too many clothes and never wear half of them. You then also have room to buy cool pieces when you’re away and take them back in your luggage».
Hand luggage or check-in?
Ashton Hugh: «For long-haul flights, I always have a check-in bag so I can bring things back from my trip. For short hauls, it’s always hand luggage so I can move around more freely and with ease».
How did the Corneliani Travel jacket do – what’s your review of it?
Ashton Hugh: «It was very comfortable to wear – even on horseback».
