Luke Fullalove Interview
Each month we ask a photographer to picture a Corneliani Travel Jacket - the iconic overshirt- somewhere in the world. These shots were taken by Luke Fullalove, a London-based photographer who’s reportage-inspired portraiture lends itself perfectly to the laid-back beat of Los Angeles.
Where did you take these pictures?
Luke Fullalove: «These photos were taken in Los Angeles, around Eagle Rock, Highland Park, and Joshua Tree».
Who’s wearing the Travel shirt-jacket?
Luke Fullalove: «Myself».
What was the mood you were trying to convey?
Luke Fullalove: «I tried to capture the feeling of those long, late summer evenings that you get in LA. Everyone starts to get out and about as the temperature starts to drop from the extreme heat of the day, and there’s a real buzz in the air».
What do you like about the location?
Luke Fullalove: «I love the light that you get in LA, it feels really unique to the area. The sun hangs low in the sky and there’s a haze in the air sometimes that makes for such gorgeous light in the evenings. Also, because most of the houses in the area are bungalows there isn’t anything obscuring the sun as it sets, so you have that really nice golden-hour light wherever you look».
What do you like about travelling?
Luke Fullalove: «I love the sense of wonder that being somewhere else gives me. Things that I normally overlook in London where I live all of a sudden become fascinating. The red buses I'm used to are replaced with the iconic yellow school buses, money looks and feels different in your hand, and the small phrases people use to greet each other are slightly different in the US which always catches me off guard (in a really nice way)».
What are the key things you always pack?
Luke Fullalove: «My camera is number one on the list, as you might expect. I bring a powerful portable charger that will charge my camera and my laptop so that I can always be sure that I can work on the photos the evening that I take them, while they’re still fresh in my mind. I also can’t go anywhere without my headphones. I love to listen to music as I explore new places».
What’s the one piece of advice you’d give to fellow travellers?
Luke Fullalove: «I’d say not to end up being too focused on ‘must-sees’ when you’re away. It’s nice to do a bit of research before you go, but I much prefer meeting local people and getting their opinions on what to do, or just wandering around and going after whatever catches my eye at that time!».
Do you have a packing tip?
Luke Fullalove: «Don’t overpack – the amount of times that I've packed a suitcase full to the brim and not even worn half of the clothes I’ve taken with me. Plus, it’s nice to have some space for any souvenirs you might pick up along the way».
Hand luggage or check-in?
Luke Fullalove: «Hand luggage all the way! As soon as I get off the plane I want to get exploring. Who’s got time to wait at the carousel?! ».
How did the Corneliani Travel jacket do – what’s your review of it?
Luke Fullalove: «The Travel Jacket was great. The non-crease material was perfect for putting in a bag and taking with me when the days turned into evenings and it got a little colder. The blue colour was really versatile and it goes with most of the things in my wardrobe! ».
