Cyrill Matter Interview
Each month we ask a photographer to picture a Corneliani Travel Jacket - the iconic overshirt- somewhere in the world. These shots – including portraits of himself – were taken by Swiss photographer Cyrill Matter on the stunning Isola del Giglio, a postcard of sun-kissed shores and verdant peaks off the Tuscan coast.
Where did you take these pictures?
Cyrill Matter: «On Isola del Giglio, away from the touristy part, where I was able to find calm».
Who’s wearing the Travel shirt-jacket?
Cyrill Matter: «Myself. My girlfriend was so kind as to take the pictures of me under my instruction. Wasn’t easy for her because I’m quite picky».
What was the mood you were trying to convey?
Cyrill Matter: «The moment I arrived in the bay where I was staying. It felt like putting noise-cancelling headphones on after a wild day in a loud city».
What do you like about the location?
Cyrill Matter: «There is something about islands. I’m drawn to them. Only short term though – as soon as I’m saturated, I need to leave».
What do you like about travelling?
Cyrill Matter: «The feeling when you arrive at a place you’ve never been before. It’s rare that I go to the same spot twice».
What are the key things you always pack?
Cyrill Matter: «I always have a Leica Q2 camera with me. And, if possible, my dog».
What’s the one piece of advice you’d give to fellow travellers?
Cyrill Matter: «One piece of luggage is always enough».
Do you have a packing tip?
Cyrill Matter: «Yeah, take less with you. Just feels better».
Hand luggage or check-in?
Cyrill Matter: «Hand luggage, if possible. I’ve got to admit though, if I travel by car, I’m loading way too much stuff».
How did the Corneliani Travel jacket do – what’s your review of it?
Cyrill Matter: «Fantastic. I love the fabric and the classic Italian cut. I like to just wear a T-shirt underneath my jacket, and with the Travel Jacket that’s possible while still keeping warm. The zippers on the side pockets are superb for travelling, by the way».
