Josè Cuevas Interview

Each month we ask a photographer to picture a Corneliani Travel Jacket - the iconic overshirt-  somewhere in the world. These shots were taken in Berlin by José Cuevas, a photographer whose work effortlessly captures the essence of the far-flung locations where he shoots his fashion editorials. Here we glimpse the greener side to the ineffably cool German capital he’s based in.

Where did you take these pictures?

Josè Cuevas: «I chose to take these images around my neighbourhood in Berlin».

Who’s wearing the Travel shirt-jacket?

Josè Cuevas: «Me».

What was the mood you were trying to convey?

Josè Cuevas: «I wanted to show a moody sunny afternoon, biking around my favourite spots in town».

What do you like about the location?

Josè Cuevas: «I love how green and spacious Berlin is in the summer, I can bike to a huge park in just a few minutes. There’s a really impressive Soviet memorial hidden inside Treptower Park that was built in the late ’40s, and it always feels very surreal to go there and walk through it – the architecture of it is really stunning. I like that Berlin has a lot of hidden gems like that».

What do you like about travelling?

Josè Cuevas: «I think travelling is a great way to get new perspectives and see things from a different point of view. I like immersing myself in a new culture and trying to feel as if I’m living there. Photography can be a great way of meeting new people when travelling and it often allows me to get a closer look into the place I’m visiting».

What are the key things you always pack?

Josè Cuevas: «My cameras, film and headphones are essential».

What’s the one piece of advice you’d give to fellow travellers?

Josè Cuevas: «I would say try not to do the things you might think you’re expected to do wherever you’re going – find your own paths, explore and be open to new experiences».

Do you have a packing tip?

Josè Cuevas: «I always seem to either overpack or underpack, so I would say try to be as practical as possible. Travelling light always makes things easier though».

Hand luggage or check-in?

Josè Cuevas: «Both! My hand luggage is always my photography equipment, so I have to check a bag for my clothes».

How did the Corneliani Travel jacket do – what’s your review of it?

Josè Cuevas: «It’s a great piece that stays looking sharp even when you’re on the go. Great quality and fit and I love the green colour, too!».
