Selin Alemdar Interview
Each month, we ask a photographer to picture a Corneliani Travel Jacket - the iconic overshirt- on someone, somewhere in the world. These shots were taken in Istanbul by Selin Alemdar, a Turkish-born, Milan-based photographer whose work has been featured in the likes of The New York Times, L’Officiel and Vogue TR. Her creativity is underpinned by the belief that everything, living or inanimate, has a soul, and she tries to capture their essence with her camera – like these shots she has taken of the Corneliani Travel Jacket.
Where did you take these pictures?
Selin Alemdar: «I took these pictures in the historical centre of Istanbul, where I spent most of my time during my teenage years».
Who’s wearing the Travel shirt-jacket?
Selin Alemdar: «Sezer, the model that I chose for this photoshoot. He is a promising model with the right spirit for the shoot».
What was the mood you were trying to convey?
Selin Alemdar: «To capture the dynamic mood of this historic city».
What do you like about the location?
Selin Alemdar: «I love the history, the architecture, the colours and the energy of Istanbul – a beautiful mix of different cultures that come together in a unique way».
What do you like about travelling?
Selin Alemdar: «I enjoy stepping out of my daily routine and comfort zone, experiencing different cultures, opening my mind and observing everything around me».
What are the key things you always pack?
Selin Alemdar: «My camera is always with me. I also pack my essentials, comfortable clothing and shoes».
What’s the one piece of advice you’d give to fellow travellers?
Selin Alemdar: «Always be open to new experiences and try to immerse yourself in the local culture. Conversations with locals can often lead to the best memories».
Do you have a packing tip?
Selin Alemdar: «Invest in a waterproof backpack to protect your belongings from unexpected weather and keep everything organised».
Hand luggage or check-in?
Selin Alemdar: «I prefer check-in luggage; it allows me to pack more comfortably without worrying about restrictions».
How did the Corneliani Travel jacket do – what’s your review of it?
Selin Alemdar: «The Corneliani jacket performed well throughout the shoot, showcasing its stylish design and comfort. It is perfect for both urban and more formal settings».
